Long time friends Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu have an ongoing feud that escalated even more this week on Twitter.
We are well used to the fact that Phil Hellmuth really likes to brag about his tournament winnings and especially his 15 WSOP bracelets (rightfully so). This time he took it a little step further with a tweet, where he also pointed out that he had won over $11 million in cash games across his career.
I give credit to the next generation of great players. I won at least $11 Million in cash Games, I’m WAY ahead in High Rollers (facts), I won tons of tourneys, and my @WSOP record speaks for itself. I am NOT saying I’m the best today, but I want a chance to compete for that title https://t.co/pDdy3H2bIE— phil_hellmuth (@phil_hellmuth) March 12, 2021
The latest exchanges on Twitter have added to the hype, with Negreanu not accepting some of Phil’s weighty claims.
Their feud has been growing ever since the Poker Brat publicly expressed disappointment in Negreanu’s play against Doug Polk in their Grudge Match.
I also said, in the same breath/same interview, that you are a great poker player, that I bet on you! I didn’t like how you played in one match? Yep. So you attack my legacy, my lifetime achievements, w lies? Because I criticized you in one match? Not cool. Get over it. I’m done https://t.co/YG3wM8bMEE— phil_hellmuth (@phil_hellmuth) March 12, 2021
DNegs wasn’t happy, hitting back by challenging Hellmuth to a heads-up battle, but stating: “I think he’s chicken, to be honest with you. I think he’s scared. I think he knows he’s going to look bad.”
Hellmuth didn’t back down, and the pair agreed on match that starts on March 31, after it was slighly postponed because of 'non-player COVID concern'.
Including the match, the pair made a bet that Hellmuth can’t show a profit across 50 of the Aria’s $25k SHR tournaments.
