After over a decade’s hiatus, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) finally graced London again with WSOP Super Circuit series that took place at the luxurious JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.
While the Triton Super High Roller Series London that ran concurrently broke several records, it was a slightly different tale for the WSOPC £3,300 Main Event. 910 players pitched the buy-in for the series highlight, and despite the impressive turnout, the Main Event fell short of its hefty £3,000,000 guarantee.
As the dust settled, it was Tobias Schwecht who rose above the rest, clinching the coveted title and £480,000 prize. His journey wasn’t an easy one. Initially, the spotlight was on Kannapong Thanarattrakul, a formidable player who had previously marked his name in tournaments such as the 2019 APT Tokyo and the 2022 EPT Prague High Roller event.
However, Schwecht was not to be overshadowed, with recent accolades including a victory and a second-place finish in the $10,000 Aria High Roller, bagging $172,612 and $134,000 respectively. The early phase of the duel saw Thanarattrakul’s significant lead. But in poker, as in life, tables can turn rapidly. Schwecht’s indomitable spirit became evident as he clawed his way back, culminating in a thrilling hand where his pair of kings bested Thanarattrakul’s jacks.
For Schwecht, the victory wasn’t just about the £480,000 prize or the gleaming WSOP Super Circuit ring. It was a testament to his skill, strategy, and the ability to thrive under pressure.

The 2023 WSOP International Circuit continues its journey across Europe. Up next, poker enthusiasts can look forward to converging at the Olympic Park in Tallinn, Estonia. The spotlight event there is the €1,500 Main Event, which boasts a generous guarantee of €1,000,000.
