Triton Poker co-founder Paul Phua wins his first WSOP bracelet in one of the toughest fields there is in €25,000 Platinum High Roller event.
"It's a very different kind of feeling, you know. You don't get to do this all the time. Not often. I didn't expect to win because there are so many players around. But the structure at the end is very short which suits players like me," smiled a very elated Phua.
At the final table he had to beat poker superstars like Espen Jorstad, Shaun Deeb, Daniel Negreanu, Julien Martini, Ben Heath, and others. He started the heads-up play with 4:1 chip lead against Gab Yong Kim, but Korean closed the gap and players were pretty much even in chips after few HU hands.
The key hand came few minutes later when Phua checked/raised/4bet a made straight on turn and Kim folded. Later Gab Yong went all-in with K9s and Paul called him with A3o. Board blanked and Paul Phua could start celebrating with rail, earning himself his first bracelet and €482,433 money prize.
"I think the older generations support me more because they like to see the older guys beat the young guys," laughed Phua. Paul also didn't forget about his friend and co-founder of Triton Poker Ivan Leow, who tragically passed away during Triton Cyprus.
I wish Ivan Leow is here with us to celebrate.Thinking of you bro.— Paul Phua Poker (@paulphuapoker) November 9, 2022
