Wai Kin Yong Wins Quickest Triton Final Table in History 10 Aug

As the Triton Poker Series in London gears up for its last hurrah with only short deck tournaments remaining, the $30,000 Short Deck Ante Only event was won in a rapid fashion by Malaysian pro Wai Kin Yong.

This final table will go down in the record books as the speediest in Triton's history. In only about 100 minutes, Yong transitioned from a group photo session to celebrating his $350,000 victory, adding another trophy to his collection.

“It’s crazy,” Yong said. “I just kept winning every hand. It was pretty insane.” Yesterday, his friend Danny Tang won his fourth trophy, and Yong told him he’d match his record the next day, and he did.

The event had garnered the attention of 37 entries, shaping a prize pool of $1,110,000. At the start of a final table, Triton regular Stephen Chidwick found himself on the losing, exiting with $58,200 after an unfortunate clash with Paul Phua. The volatile nature of the short deck format continued to shine as Phua, despite an initial surge, was sent packing with $72,100 for his efforts. Isaac Haxton followed suit, earning $94,300 for his efforts, while Sam Greenwood's tournament run ended in fourth place, taking home $122,000.

Karl Chappe-Gatien faced off against Yong, ultimately finishing in third place and securing a respectable $161,000. This paved the way for a heads-up face-off between Yong and Chris Brewer. While Brewer, having reached a heads-up finale for the second time during his London trip, showcased resilience, it was Yong who dominated, sealing the title with a setup of pocket queens against pocket jacks.
