Daniel Geeng Wins PGT PLO Series II Championship

Daniel Geeng had only one thing on his mind and that was winning the PGT PLO Series II Championship. To achieve that, he needed at least a second place in the last tournament of the series, the Event #9: $25,200 PLO Championship.

He started the final day as a commanding chip leader and not only Geeng secured a second place, but took the tournament down, capturing the $487,500 first place prize and clinching the Player of the Series title for a nice $25,000 championship bonus.

By the time the final seven players convened, the dynamic at the table was palpable, with Geeng and Harsheel Kothari jointly holding a dominating 60% of the chips. Kothari immediately amplified this dominance, dispatching John Riordan to the sidelines. As the table’s tempo accelerated, Eelis Parssinen’s fortunes ebbed, leaving him with an exit in fourth place, despite flopping a better pair and better flush draw, but succumbed anyway to Geeng’s timely turned two pair.

The stage was set for Geeng to secure the PLO Series title as his stack swelled to over 80% of the chips in play. Veselin Karakitukov and Kothari attempted to chip away his leaed, briefly shifting the momentum, but their efforts seemed only to delay the inevitable.

Kothari’s resilient stand ended in third place, his top set of queens falling to Karakitukov’s set of kings, setting up a heads-up confrontation that was to be a brief affair. Both Geeng and Karakitukov flopped sets, but it was Geeng’s pocket kings that held firm against Karakitukov’s deuces.
