In the heads-up battle, Gregor beat Daniel Samson from England to become the champion. Samson won $28,800 for his second-place finish and was unlucky in a spot where he put Šverko’s tournament life hanging on the line with four outers, which he managed to hit and survive.
“It feels good. This year hasn’t been very good for me, online or live. And it’s my first trophy, my first live trophy, so I’m pretty happy about it.” Šverko said after the win. He also keeps his feet on the ground, saying: “I just ran good. Played pretty good, I think. I just won flips. That’s it. I think I mostly had it. When the pot was big, I just had it, so that’s the secret.”
Gregor was also the #1 ranked player on the Croatian Pocket Fives Leaderboard in 2021, when he won third place in the online Battle of Malta Main Event for $300,000, establishing himself as one of the best players in the country.
