High Stakes Poker Season 13 Episode 1 Recap

The 13th season of High Stakes Poker is here, and it opens with some new faces. Andrew Robl and Jennifer Tilly are headlining the $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em cash game, while Justin Gavri, Sameh Elamawy, Bo Brownstein, Masato Yokosawa, and Sean Dempsey join the action.

Robl Goes Berserk on the Rookie

In the first big hand of the season, Elamawy opened 53, Tilly called, Robl went for a squeeze with A7, Elamawy called, and Tilly folded. The flop came 26K, Robl c-bet, and Elamawy called with a gutshot to a straight flush. The pot was $46,700.

The turn comes 5, giving Elamawy a low pair, Robl checks, Elamawy bets $17,000, Robl raises to $65,000, and Elamawy calls. The pot was $176,700.

The river comes 8, Robl checks again and Elamawy goes all-in with his missed draw, Robl snap folds, and Elamawy wins the first significant pot of the season.

Elamaway Reads Dempsey Like a Book

Elamawy opened with AK, Dempsey 3-bet with JJ, Gavri 4-bet with 1010, and everybody called. The pot is 82.400.

The flop came 9J4, giving Dempsey a monster top set in a multiway 4-bet pot. Elamawy and Dempsey both checked, but Gavri bet $16,000. Both players called. The pot is $130,400.

The turn comes K, and Elamawy hits the top pair, but all three players check.

The river comes 8, Elamawy checked, and Dempsey bet $71,000. Elamawy started talking with Dempsey, who said he would show him one card if he made the correct guess. Elamawy does, so Dempsey shows J. After some thinking, Elamawy made the call, and Dempsey pockets 272,400.

Elamaway Gets One Back From Dempsey

Dempsey opened with JJ, Elamawy 3-bet to $15,000, and Dempsey called. The pot was $32,900.

The flop came 1069, Elamawy bets $10,000, and Dempsey calls. The pot is $52,900.

The turn came [invalid notations], Elamawy continued to bet with a $25,000 bet, and Dempsey called. The pot is $102,900.

The river K was golden for Elamawy, who went for the third barrel with a $60,000 bet, and Dempsey called to get disappointed with how Elamawy played the hand but still got lucky. Elamawy won $222,900 in this hand.
