The Deerfoot Inn & Casino 2024 Fall Super Stack is complete and it was a huge series for a few players this time around. At the top of the list is the red-hot Mike Malm, but local streamer Jordan Banfield also found some long-overdue live poker success while high roller specialist Daniel Lefebvre took down the Main.
Malm, who is leading the Alberta Poker Index Player of the Year race, extended his lead with a series for the ages. He booked his fifth cash in the 15-event series in the Main Event including a win and a couple of runner-up finishes.
Banfield, who puts in most of his volume online with WPT Global, found three cashes this time around with two wins and a 2nd place to round out the series. Julius Roque gets an honourable mention as well for his dominance of the NLH/PLO Mix games at Deerfoot — his win at the Fall Super Stack represented his 3rd Mix win at Deerfoot events out of the last six.
Daniel Lefebvre was the player to take down the big game in this one. He made it through 287 entries and cut an ICM deal worth almost $80k at the end with start-of-day leader Robbie Mosher.
While not reaching the highs of the WSOP-C events that run regularly in the same space, the Fall Super Stack was a solid end to the Deerfoot 2024 season with almost $900k in total prizes and more than 1,800 entries across 15 events.

Malm Masters 2024
It’s been quite a year for Mike Malm in 2024. He’s been on a red-hot run in local games around Alberta this year and in the process crushing the Alberta Poker Index Player of the Year race. Coming into the series Malm had 26 cashes on his Hendon Mob page, and while not all of those were counted in the API race (API tracks the results of players in tournaments held in Alberta, and Malm cashed elsewhere as well), enough were to put him in the clear lead with a single major series yet to run in the province this year.
Malm’s banner year started off with a modest cash in the January WSOP-C at Deerfoot but then he followed that up with a 5-cash March that set him off and running. Over the year he’d racked up 3 wins out of 26 cashes coming into the FSS for more than $86k (Cdn) in winnings.
Malm was already well ahead in the API standings when the FSS kicked off on Nov 7, but his commanding performance this fall will just cement that lead and put him on pace for an easy win. Malm’s series started out strong when he final-tabled the opening $340 Deepstack multi-day game.
In between bagging his stack for Day 2 of the Deepstack and finishing 7th in the game on Day 2, Malm took second place to Josh Berry in the Mystery Bounty game, Event #4. He showed his prowess in the deeper structure games with a stellar performance for the win in the second multi-day game of the series, the $560 Megastack.
He chopped for the win in that one in a three-way ICM deal at the end, netting him almost $19k in the process. Then, over the final weekend of the series, he repeated his first weekend performance by final-tabling the Main Event for 10th place in a brutal cooler while bagging a second place to Damien Zillig in the PLO Bounty between Day 1 and Day 2 play in the Main.
Event | Place | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
$560 Megastack | 1 | Mike Malm | $18,736 |
$1,500 Superstack | 10 | Mike Malm | $7,362 |
$340 Deepstack | 7 | Michael Malm | $3,691 |
$340 PLO Bounty | 2 | Mike Malm | $3,489 |
$340 Mystery Bounty | 2 | Mike Malm | $2,525 |
Banfield with Breakout Series
Jordan Banfield was the second star of the Fall Super Stack with three cashes over the series, and all of them were big finishes. The local WPT Global streamer started off the series in style with a couple of wins on the opening weekend. Like Malm, he split up his Day 1 and Day 2 action in the opening $340 Deepstack with a deep run in another game.
In Banfield’s case, he took down the 6-Max PKO game before booking the win in the opening multi-day event. In the Deepstack game, he made a heads-up deal with Andy Truong to chop the money, then took the PKO game down outright over Weston Pring (who is one of the top-5 API players looking at Malm’s back in the distance).
Banfield fired a few more events over the week but it looked like he might have to settle for just the two wins this series. On the final day of the series, however, he showed up for the last chance NLH Bounty game and damn near made it three-for-three. He got heads-up with Nanimo’s Josh Myers and only missed out on the 3rd win when his queens were cracked on the final hand of play. If his queens held in that hand, Myers would have been on fumes, and the win virtually guaranteed.
Event | Place | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
$340 Deepstack | 1 | Jordan Banfield | $18,981 |
$280 Bounty | 2 | Jordan Banfield | $3,407 |
$450 6-Max PKO | 1 | Jordan Banfield | $2,923 |
Roque 3-for-6 in NLH/PLO Mix
The honourable mention of the series goes to Julius Roque for his win in the NLH/PLO Mix game. Roque is a familiar face around Alberta poker tables and is a player that no one wants to see on their left. He’s shown his mastery of community board poker with both two and four cards, and there’s no better indicator of that than his recent performances in the popular mix at Deerfoot.
Going back to 2023, Roque has picked up the win in 3 of the last 6 editions of the game, including a wonderful scene in May when he was able to celebrate his birthday with his son while winning a WSOP-C ring in the Mix discipline. He also bagged the win in the 2023 edition of the game at the Summer Super Stack. Roque also picked up third place in the $280 Turbo on the second-last night of the series.

More WSOP-C and Super Stack Action for 2025
While that marks the final big series of the year for Deerfoot Inn & Casino, the 2025 season is already fast approaching. As always, Canadian players start the year off in Cowtown with the WSOP-C January. There are also two Super Stack series planned for 2025 and a new (tentative) October date for the second WSOP-C event.
The January event is traditionally quite large so planning ahead is a good idea. See below for details on the opening Circuit event of 2025 and plan your trip now with room code WSOP0125.
