Marin Tovar (26) from United Stakes, Texas, killed Steve Gonzalez (25), who was accused of cheating in a poker game. News reported that the shooting happened during the poker game. Paramedics tried to save the life of Gonzalez, but he wasn’t able to make it as he died shortly after.
The source who was close to the players said that the group would come together often at home and play poker.
How it Happened?
One of the players at the game accused Gonzalez of cheating, and an argument started between him and Gonzalez. The fight began, Gonzalez punched him, and things got even more chaotic. When the group, including Tovar, tried to stop the fight, Gonzalez took the chair and hit another player with it.
Gonzalez left the house, and the argument got even bigger. Gonzalez threatened to come back with a firearm and cause more problems. Tovar walked to his car and picked up a handgun, which he fired into the ground a few times.
Later, Gonzalez came back to the house with a handgun, but the witnesses were not sure if he was really armed. One of the neighbors said to the police that he heard a total of three gunshots. Another witness said that he saw Tovar shoot Gonzalez three times.
Tovar ran from the area after shooting Gonzalez and was arrested shortly after the shooting. According to the wintesses, the gun Tovar shot Gonzalez with was sold to him by Gonzalez earlier that day.
The whole story is still not confirmed as Tovar gave a different story to the police compared to the story of the witnesses.
Tovar is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail.
