Tournament Recap
The Women’s Winter Festival was a big deal for women’s poker as it was the largest women’s event outside of Las Vegas. On Day 1b, we saw Kerryjane Craigie, the festival’s founder, make an announcement that highlighted the festival’s importance to empowering women in poker.
We saw many famous female poker players, like Jennifer Steele, who came into Day 3 as the chip leader. Kyna England, Soraya Estrada, and Jennifer Shahade were all playing but didn’t manage to achieve significant results. Nataly Sopacuaperu was eliminated from the bubble, which disappointed her after she missed on min-cash.
Coming into Day 3 of the tournament, Maria was hanging on with just 14 big blinds before she had a double-up against Callens and started accumulating chips. She also eliminated Marta Ported in third place for £9,000 after Lampropulos called off SB shove from BTN with K♥9♣ vs Porter’s A♦8♠. The runnout was 10♠Q♦9♦8♣3♦, and the pair of nines were good.
The Heads-Up
The heads-up battle didn’t last too long, as Maria managed to get the job done in less than an hour. In the last hand, Callens shoved K♦6♥ and got called by Lampropulos with Q♣5♦. The queen on the flop was the end of the road for Callens, as the turn and river didn’t show her any help.
