Martin Zamani is a high stakes pro who has been in the poker media more as a whistleblower to an alleged cheating scandal involving Bryn Kenney in one of the weirdest interviews we’ve seen. But Zamani has been on a tear lately, and poker is talking for him this time.
This week he dominated the finale of the 2023 U.S. Poker Open, as he eliminated every single one of his opponents on the $50,000 NLHE final table, earning himself $666,000 for the win. With three additional cashes, he topped the leaderboard, snatching the giant golden eagle trophy from Ren Lin, who was at the top since winning the opening event, and an additional $50,000 cash bonus.
The final event attracted 37 players, and six qualified for the final day. Besides Zamani, three other players were eyeing the 2023 U.S. Poker Open title – Jeremy Ausumus, Chris Brewer, and Dan Smith.
Brewer, who ran into Zamani’s pocket Aces, was the first one to go. The next one was Smith, who couldn’t win with pocket Jacks against pocket Queens, even though he flopped a set, and Ausmus was outdrawn with A6 against J7.
