It’s that time of the year when the best Norwegian poker players will fight it out for the crown of the best in the land. Due to regulatory constraints, the Norwegian Poker Championship continues to be held outside Norway’s borders. The Card Casino Bratislava will host Norway’s finest for the second consecutive year from March 15 to 24. With its central location and excellent connections, Slovakia seems the perfect choice for this occasion.
The 2024 championship coincides with the European Mixed Poker Championship and Poker North Masters festivals, and eight events will unfold, each crowning a new Norwegian champion.
Among these, the €880 Main Event stands out as the highlight of the championship. Starting on Tuesday, March 19, and crowning a new champion five days later on Saturday, March 23. The reigning champion Lars Hareid will be defending his title and the €110,768 prize he secured last year in a heads-up battle against Morten Lie.
The championship’s schedule extends beyond the Main Event and will also feature the NLHE Heads-Up, 8-Game, Pot Limit Omaha, Fixed Limit, Turbo, Ladies and Seniors Championship.
Free Norwegian Poker Championship
Yet, the spirit of the Norwegian Poker Championship also thrives on home soil despite the absence of buy-ins as the name suggests. Since 2021, Oslo has hosted the Freeroll Championships, drawing impressive crowds, sometimes exceeding 1,000 players. This year, Byron Varner was crowned Norwegian Champion in the Freeroll Main Event.
During the Freeroll Championship, the Norwegian Poker Association (Norsk Pokerforbund) also honors some of the country’s best performers. Espen Uhlen Jørstad grabbed an award for 2024 Norwegian Poker Player of the Year, while Steven Iglesias, known online as “blindguypoker,” received the Streamer of the Year award.
In Norway’s poker community, the Free Championship held in Oslo is as esteemed as its international counterpart. Who will join Byron Barner among the ranks of Norwegian poker champions?
