Shanica Merced was arrested for assisting in an armed robbery of Seedy Poker Club. She said to the reporters that she had nothing to do with the robbery in which both robbers were shot to death. The fatal shooting occurred on the night of March 30 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
“I had nothing to do with it. I never told those boys nothing I didn’t tell the boys to come here. They just showed up.”
What Happened at the Club?
Two males entered the Seedy Poker Club armed with the intention to rob the club, which was known for hosting high-stakes poker games. The person who was protecting the club ended up in a gunfire exchange with them, which resulted in both robbers getting killed.
The waitress also said she was friends with one of the robbers but didn’t know the other one. There was a moment in the surveillance video when she spoke to one of the robbers prior to the robbery.
“My friend was coming in just being a friend, and he lost his mind. I didn’t know what was going on in people’s heads. He wanted to do what he wanted to do. I had nothing to do with that.” Merced said.
Not a Gambling Club
Merced is currently out on bail, and she claimed that the club was more of a social club and not a poker club.
“People came, they played games, watched TV, sports. People slept there when they didn’t have anywhere to sleep.
“It was a safe haven for people, that’s what it was supposed to be until someone changed their mind because they weren’t from that side of town.”
Merced was also shot in the shooting, but she wasn’t seriously injured, according to police. Merced also said that one of the robbers, who was supposed to be her friend, looked at her and shot her.
“They [police] talking about how I just got grazed, no, the bullet went through my leg.
“And they’re [police] saying I got shot trying to get away from – no, the boy that was supposed to be my friend, he looked at me and shot me.”
