Following the conclusion of the $102,000 Super High Roller Main Event, players eagerly jumped into the $25,750 Mystery Bounty 6-Max event, one of the two one-day events at the 2024 Super High Roller Series.
Unlike the previous five events, where first-time PGT winners took home all five trophies, Event #6 belonged to one of the most accomplished pros in the game – Spain’s Adrian Mateos. Outlasting a tough field of 40 entries, Mateos secured the $162,000 first-place prize and an additional $165,000 from mystery bounties.
In a poker superstar heads-up battle, Mateos faced none other than poker legend Phil Ivey. Although Ivey had to settle for $113,000 as the runner-up, he was a happy man by pulling two of the largest mystery bounties – $200,000 and $100,000, to bring his total from Event #6 to an impressive $413,000.
For Mateos, this victory added another accolade to his already stellar career. With this win, Mateos claimed his fifth PGT title and closed in on an incredible $50 million in live tournament earnings, standing at $49.8 million. Only seven players have crossed the $50 million mark, a list that includes the likes of Bryn Kenney ($67 million in live earnings), Justin Bonomo ($64m), Stephen Chidwick ($59m), Jason Koon ($58m), Mikita Badziakouski ($55m), Dan Smith ($55m), and Daniel Neagreanu ($53m). Given Mateos’ hot streak with four cashes in a row in Northern Cyprus, he might join that exclusive club in one of the next few days. His streak includes second place in Event #3 for $231,000, third place in Event #4 for $262,000, fourth place in Event #5 for $420,000, and now his victory in Event #6.
