The high stakes and high drama of televised poker is getting a boost as PokerStars announces the return of The Big Game, coinciding with the much-anticipated revival of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) at Resorts World Las Vegas.
Airing originally for two seasons in 2010 and 2011 on the Fox network, The Big Game quickly became a fan favorite, featuring a dynamic cast of interesting poker characters, from cagey veterans to ambitious newcomers, all bringing their unique personalities and playstyles to the table.
Its popularity stemmed not only from the professional play but also from its innovative “Loose Cannon” format. This feature allowed qualifiers, typically non-professional poker enthusiasts, to be staked $50,000 to join the cash game action. After 150 hands, any profits were theirs to keep, adding a layer of suspense and opportunity for viewers to connect with participants.
Fast forward to the present, and The Big Game is slated to return with ten fresh episodes. While the full lineup of players remains under wraps, one confirmed name is stirring excitement: the fan favorite and PokerStars Team Pro member Lex Veldhuis, who is also returning to the televised cash game arena. Lex’s aggressive play was a hallmark of his 2010 appearances, and we’re expecting to see the same from him in the upcoming games.
Lex is already in Las Vegas and preparing for the show’s production, with the first of new episodes set to air in 2024. Just a few months ago, Lex made a series of YouTube videos called Lex Reflects, in which he revisits some of his most unforgettable hands from the original run of The Big Game, including a $200,000 tussle with Daniel Negreanu and his record cash game pot against the legendary Doyle Brunson.
Fans can prepare for the upcoming season by watching Lex’s throwback analysis and getting ready for the fresh faces and seasoned pros who will populate the tables at Resorts World Las Vegas.
