With the tables in Las Vegas all packed away for another summer, the thoughts of the Alberta poker community turn to the Pure Poker Tour (PPT). Traditionally, the third edition of the PPT follows about a week after the end of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and this year is no exception with the first trophy events kicking off on Tuesday, July 23rd, less than a week following the close of play in Vegas.
Satellite action is already underway with some online shots at the series through KKPoker, as well as live satellites in Edmonton. One game for tournament dollars is already in the books, but July 21 and 22 play host to two more tournament dollar qualifiers, as well as single-table satellites to the Main Event and High Roller running on the 22nd. Action on the 21st goes off at Pure Casino Edmonton, while the 22nd will play across town at Pure Casino Yellowhead.
Wasy Looking for Three?
It’s been quite a year so far for Winnpeg’s Eric Wasylenko, bagging both Main Event titles so far this year. He’ll no doubt be in Edmonton looking to go three-for-three, but he’ll have some of the big names of the local community will certainly be out gunning for him.
Main Event action kicks off with Day 1a on Friday, July 26. They’ll do the Day 1 thing all over again on Saturday before the field for Day 2 and the money spots are decided. Day 2 plays on Sunday, July 28 with a Day 3 tentatively in place for the following Monday if required.
Opening day kicks off with the Seniors’ Event, as is customary on the PPT, with play underway at noon. While I occasionally play this one, this year I’ll be working the keyboard and camera instead as I hit the floor for my first of seven days of live reporting hosted by PokerPro and Main Event Travel.
There are also two open events on the first Tuesday with a $230 NLH at 4 pm and a Survivor game (with 10% of the field getting equal payouts) at 7 pm. That is the first of seven days of action that includes a $2,000 High Roller, the $1,100 Main Event, and a Tag Team event, as well as PLO bounty and mixed PLO/NLH games for the four-card lovers.
Get ready and get set — it’s time to head to Edmonton for 2024 PPT #3. Cya there next week!
