With the Canadian weather turning decidedly autumn, the first PPT series of the year at Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton is as predictable as the changing colours of the leaves in September. Qualifying action kicks off on Sunday, Sept 15th with $T3,800 package available for 1 in 10 entries starting at 1 pm across town at Casino Edmonton.
The host venue gets the satellite call on Monday the 16th with another 1 in 10 shot, this time for $T2,850. There are more chances to get $T packages leading up to the opening day on Sept 19.
Full series action gets going on the 19th with the traditional opening salvo from the 50+ crowd starting at noon. Younger players needn’t fret, however, as they’ll have a shot at an open trophy later in the day when the Little Bounty kicks off at 5 pm.
That opens 11 days of poker action at Pure Casino Yellowhead with the final hands of the Main Event and High Roller likely taking place on Mon, Sept 30. In between, there is plenty of poker to meet most tastes and bankrolls.
First PPT Flip & Go for Yellowhead
Perhaps the first thing that jumps out on a casual inspection of the schedule for PPT #4 comes on opening day — the first day of Flip rounds for the $220 Flip & Go. This is the first time the PPT has featured the format, which has become popular, though somewhat controversial, in other poker tours over the past few years.
The Go stage of the new event runs on Sept 25, so tune in to the live reporting to find out who wins the first-ever Flip & Go trophy on the PPT.
Among the other notable games is the Tag Team game on the opening weekend. With switch tickets and bar service flowing freely, the tag team game is always characterized by a party atmosphere with a bit of incidental poker happening on the side.
The Tag Team kicks off at 6:30 pm on Saturday, Sept 21, alongside Day 1b of the Mystery Bounty game, which starts on Friday. Both 6-Max and 8-Max games are also featured in this series, as well as a mixed NLH/PLO game and a PLO big bounty for the 4-card lovers in the crowd.

At the start of the year, Winnipeg’s Eric Wasylenko looked set to dominate the season winning the first two Main Event titles of the year at Casino Edmonton and Casino Calgary. Ryan Cairns brought the title back home to Edmonton in the August series, however, ending Wasy’s run at two.
No doubt Wasy will be back looking to regain the title, but there are plenty of other local players he’ll have to contend with. The Main Event weekend caps with the High Roller event on Sunday with late entries open until the start of Day 2 on Monday, giving Main Event players plenty of time to take a high roller shot with a late buy-in.
PPT #4 kicks off the second half of the 2-24 schedule for the tour with another series here at Yellowhead to end the year in late November, and another mini-series sandwiched between. PokerPro will be hosting live reporting from the floor throughout the series, powered by Main Event Travel so follow the action live starting with the Seniors game on Sept 19.
