Wasylenko, O’Leary, Lothian, Schell All with Big Series on PPT

The 2024 Pure Poker Tour returns for its 4th installment of the year and first to visit Pure Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton.
The 2024 Pure Poker Tour #4 plays it’s final events this weekend including the Main Event and High Roller.

The action here at PPT #4 has been ongoing for a week now and there has been some solid action with some great results for a few players. There has been two-card and four-card action with bounties, freezeouts and team events to satiate the appetites of nearly any player.

Eric Wasyenko, who won the first two Main Events of the year, picked up another trophy this week in the 6-Max game. Kevin Schell has multiple cahses so far this series including a win, as does Rob Lothian. Meanwhile, Daniel O’Leary picked up his third PPT trophy of 2024 in the Freezeout game.

Kevin Schell with Three Cashes so Far, Including Win

Kevin Schell After Winning Little Bounty. Schell has cashed in two other events this series including 4th Place in NLH/PLO MIx

Kevin Schell has had a pretty good week here at Pure Casino Yellowhead. As reported earlier in the week, Schell picked up the win after a chop in the Little Bounty game, but he didn’t stop there. He went on to final table the NLH/PLO Mix game the following day for 4th place.

The following day he added yet another cash to his list from this series with the min-cash spot in Event #12. That gives him three cashes so far this series, and no doubt he’ll be looking for more this weekend in the Main Event.

Rob Lothian Books a Win and a Runner-up

Another big winner here at PPT #4 so far this week is Rob Lothian. The local player picked up a win in the team event on the opening weekend, then followed that up the next day with a runner-up finish in the 6-Max behind Eric Wasylenko

Lothian had nearly $120k in earnings according to Hendon Mob going into this series so even with the exchange rate he’ll be well over that total once these results are posted. The Team win marked his third lifetime win, while the 6-Max result was his 4th runner-up finish with most of his results coming since 2022.

The 6-Max finish was particularly notable as Lothian was short-stacked for most of the final table. He employed a wait-and-see attitude and in the process watched other players with more chips get it in and head out the door in front of him. His result from the 6-Max is a nice reminder that sometimes you can make big money at the poker tables by NOT playing poker, and instead just watching others play it while you fold.

2024 has been a good year on the PPT for Daniel O’Leary as he picked up his 3rd trophy on the tour this year after winning Event #10: Freezeout. He won his first two in Calgary back in April when he went back-to-back on subsequent days.

O’Leary picked up trophy #3 after a bit of a marathon Freezeout game that took 12 hours to make it through 76 total entries. He went on a tear with play four-ways, first chipping down and then busting leader Jason Ross before powering through heads-up against Benny Sarnelli.

Wasy Wins 3rd PPT Trophy of 2024

Eric Wasylenko picked up the 6-Max win this week at PPT #4 after taking down the first two Main Events of the year

The final big story of the week so far comes from Eric Wasylenko who has been dominating the PPT a bit over the past few years. In 2023 he final tabled two Main Events and took down two PPT trophies (and added another win in the Yellowhead December Deepstack).

He came into 2024 on a mission and took down the first two Main Events on the tour in February at Pure Casino Argyle in Edmonton, then again in April at Pure Casino Calgary. He then took down the 6-Max game in this series to book his third PPT trophy of the year and he’ll no doubt be looking for another Main Event win this weekend.
