Star of “The Voice” Matt Snook Lost His Battle to Cancer

Country singer Matt Snook, who was the star of the television show “The Voice” and a poker enthusiast, lost the battle with cancer and passed away.

Matt was diagnosed with kidney cancer when he went from home to the ER in pajamas on January 1st. He knew there was something wrong, and he expected to stay at the hospital. He was diagnosed with a rare kind of kidney cancer, and he went through several surgeries.

Matt went to play the WSOP Main Event as his last poker ride and was in a good mood during the tournament.

“I’ve lived such a blessed life, I feel good today, had a tough night last night, and I’m planning on trying to work through what I’ve got to work through, poker players know that poker is a grind and life is a grind. But I don’t want anybody feeling sorry for me. I don’t want any empathy. I’ve just lived a blessed life and I’m glad to be here.” Matt said.

Matt was playing poker since he was 21, and his first recorded live MTT cash came in 2015. He was mainly a cash game player, but he jumped into some live MTTs occasionally.

“A lot of people might not know this about me, but I have been an avid Texas Hold’em Player since I was 21. Last year was my best financial revenue stream ever as I was transitioning from a cash game player to a tournament player. I had plans to decrease the number of musical performances on my schedule in 2024, so I could increase travel to play on the WSOP, WPT and other poker tour circuits. I am hopeful to be able to get back to it as my health improves, but am not sure if I can pursue tournament play due to the 13- to 14-hour days that it requires. So I’ll just have to wait and see.” Matt said

Undergoing the treatment Matt had to stop live performing as he lacked energy or stamina.

“I guess I was okay with not singing, but maybe wasn’t okay with not serving, I’ve had to tell lots of folks why I can’t perform for them this year.” Snook Said.
