The World Series of Poker Main Event Starts Today

It’s finally here. After the longest wait ever, the biggest tournament in poker returns to Las Vegas.
 
The $10,000 World Series of Poker Main Event begins today and runs all the way through to November 17.
 
For obvious reasons things are a lot different this time around. It has been 27 months since the live Main Event happened because of the pandemic. Back then in 2019 Hossein Ensan defeated a field of 8,659 players for the $10 million first prize.
 
However, technically we have had a Main Event champion since then, as Damian Salas won the live/online hybrid event at the start of this year.

How big will this year’s event be? Nobody knows but we do know there will be a last minute surge after US travel restrictions are set to be lifted this month, which prompted the WSOP to add two Day 1s at short notice.
 
The other big change this year is that the WSOP Main Event takes place in the middle of the series, rather than the end, meaning there will be more side events for those players who bust. A move which has been welcomed by most of the players

Playing to a winner on November 17

Today is Day 1A and we have a starting flight every day until next Tuesday, Day 1F. Day 2ABD is on Tuesday November 9, and Day 2CEF on Wednesday November 10. Players can also buy-in on Day 2 with 75 big blinds.
 
After that the fields combine and play down to a final table on November 15. The final table will play down to four players on November 16, and down to a winner on November 17.
