Unibet Poker emailed its users on Monday that it will close its services for many countries on November 6, 2024. Unibet will still be available to players from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, and the UK. All of these markets have local licenses except Finland, which is in the process of getting one.
The other countries not on the list will be transferred to BoaBet, which is part of the Unibet poker network. The BoaBet software is browser only; there is no PC poker client or mobile app. Also, the Heads-up and sit-and-go formats will be removed from the game selection.
Players will still be able to play cash games, MTTs, sports betting, live casino games, and virtual slot machines.
We have seen more than a few poker operators (PokerStars, PartyPoker, Run It Once Poker) leave specific markets and only focus on bigger ones. The impression is that the regulations are getting stricter, and GGPoker is taking a bigger share of the market.
Unibet was a smaller but popular site for poker games, and if we consider traffic, promotions, and safety, we could say it was one of the top 10 poker sites in the world. Current leaders are GGPoker, which is above everybody else, but PokerStars and WPT Global are also leading sites with decent traffic and game selection.
