Wearing Face Masks Will Not Be Mandatory on 2021 WSOP

One of the biggest questions regarding safety measures on the 2021 was, if players will be required to wear face masks now that vaccines are mandatory?

The confusion was clarified with an update to the 2021 WSOP FAQs, which stated that players can take the masks off while seated at a poker table.

According to the FAQs, Players must still wear masks when:

  • walking around on break
  • being moved to another table
  • in the Rio hallways
  • any time they step away from their poker table for any reason while indoors

At the end of August, the WSOP announced the requirement for full vaccination for this year’s live series with mixed reactions from the poker world. When it was originally released, however, the organizers said that masks would be required for anyone in the playing area.

The rule was then updated so that dealers won’t be required to prove vaccination status, although Caesars Entertainment strongly encourages all employees to get vaccinated.

A handful of poker pros responded to the tweet regarding the new mask development with continued skepticism about unvaccinated staff.
