Christmas is coming early for poker players as the World Poker Tour (WPT) prepares to wrap up its 2024 season with a spectacular finale at the WPT World Championship, held at the luxurious Wynn Las Vegas. From December 3 to 23, this much-anticipated event will bring together poker enthusiasts from around the globe for the top-tier WPT experience that players have come to know and love.
This marks the third consecutive year that Wynn has hosted the WPT World Championship festival and the fruitful partnership between WPT and Wynn Las Vegas has delivered quite some record-breaking fields. Last year, the $10,400 buy-in WPT World Championship made history with the largest guaranteed prize pool in live tournament history with a staggering $40,000,000. The record for WPT Main Tour entries was also shattered, with an incredible 3,835 participants. Ultimately, Dan Sepiol emerged victorious, pocketing a historic $5,282,954 for his world championship title.
But the Main Event wasn’t the only star of the show. WPT Prime events, which offer a more accessible way for players to get into the WPT live tournament experience, also set a record. The $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Championship drew 10,512 entries, creating a prize pool of more than $10,000,000, which was the largest turnout in WPT history. In total, the festival awarded more than $100,000,000 in prize money across all events.
While the prize pool for this year’s WPT World Championship hasn’t been announced yet, there are high expectations for another grand finale to the WPT XXII season. Since 2002, WPT has been making millionaires, and this year’s event promises to add more to that prestigious list.
The $10,400 buy-in WPT World Championship will begin on December 14, with three initial flights (1A, 1B, and 1C) for players to choose from. The new world champion will be crowned five days later, on December 21, during the TV Final Table.

In addition to the World Championship, the festival will host a wide range of events catering to all types of players. These include the $1,100 WPT Prime Championship, which boasts a $5 million guarantee, the WPT Alpha 8 with a $25,800 buy-in, and popular formats such as Mystery Bounty, Omaha events, and the Ladies and Seniors Championships.
This year’s festival also brings the largest freeroll in poker history. WPT will host the ClubWPT Gold $5M Invitational freeroll, featuring a $1 million first-place prize. This massive freeroll is part of a celebration for the launch of WPT’s newest partner, ClubWPT Gold, a sweepstake-based online poker platform. The freeroll, scheduled to run from December 13 to 15, will award 100 players entry into the WPT World Championship, where they will compete from December 14 to 21. Players must secure a “Golden Passport” through ClubWPT Gold to qualify.
