It’s been quite a week at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary for WSOP-C Calgary August. There are now seven rings awarded so far in the series, with the 8th and 9th in play as I write this in the $1k events.
The big winner so far this week was Phillip Louie after he took down the 4-Flight game for $47k and change and his first ring. After the opening event when David Labchuk won his third, it’s been a week of first rings with Kevin Li, Youssef Hmama, Scott Calvank, Sean Cardoso, and Antoine Saddleback all winning their first Circuit jewelry.
So far, in the first week of action here at Deerfoot, there have been over 2,300 entries with almost $900k awarded in prizes.

Phillip Louie Wins 4-Flight
Phillip Louie is one of two brothers who are regulars in local poker action. His brother Laurence is the one we see more often, and the two look very similar, so when Phillip sat down for the 4-Flight, I initially thought it was his brother.
It looks like Phillip is picking up steam on his brother now after his big win in the 4-Flight. Brother Laurence has more than $200k in live earnings, so Phillip still needs to catch up to that, with this win bringing him above $40k lifetime once the exchange is worked out, but Phillip does have one up now as the first member of the Louie family to score a ring.
Louie had to battle through a marathon final table, before the final two sprinted to the finish. From 4-handed to the finish was close to two hours, but most of that was getting rid of Gail Flaherty (who bagged the second biggest stack for Day 2)in 4th and Leo Zhang in 3rd. That took about two hours, and then the final two played just a few hands before it was all decided.
Louie won it in style, rivering a boat in the final hand to take it down as he was trying to hold with his flopped set against some big draws for Stephen “The Noodle” Nahm.
Bevy of One-Day Rings
The 4-Flight was the first multi-day event to award a ring so far in the series, and the rest of the games have all been one-day rings.
