GGPoker Takes Over World Series of Poker in $500 Million Aquisition

World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been sold by Caesars Entertainment to NSUS Group (owner of GGPoker) for a total of $500 million dollars. The whole deal will be paid in two parts: $250 million in cash and $250 million in the next five years.

Just a few hours before the big announcement, GGPoker posted an interesting question on X social media. GG asked its followers, “What new poker rules need to be invented?”. This may be an indicator that GG plans to do something big and different, as they have been doing with its online poker client.

Breaking Records, But Slowing Down?

The World Series of Poker has been breaking attendance records for a few years now, but this year, it was different. The WSOP Main Event record was broken just by a few entries (69), and it was much stronger beat years before so the growth may be slowing down.

We will see if this takeover can continue the positive trend and maybe even make it better. This move is likely to increase player interest, with GG announcing changes and additions to make the experience more engaging and exciting. Additionally, the online connection with GGPoker and BetKings will be even stronger with the WSOP brand, further elevating the platform’s appeal and accessibility.

WSOP is Staying in Vegas

There is information that the WSOP will be hosted at Caesars Las Vegas Casino for the next twenty years, and Caesars Entertainment will be involved in running it. WSOPC will also have the right to be hosted at Caesars Las Vegas Casino.

President of Caesars Digital said this is an exciting step for Caesars and WSOP as the brand.

“We’ve enjoyed a longstanding and successful partnership with GGPoker that has helped spur the growth of the WSOP brand,” said Hession.

“We can’t wait to see what NSUS has in store for growing the WSOP’s legacy in poker, and we look forward to continuing to deliver an unmatched and familiar experience to poker players going forward.”

GG Plans to Expand WSOP Worldwide

CEO of NSUS Group Inc, Michael Kim, said: “We will leverage GGPoker’s cutting-edge technology and industry expertise to create an exciting future for WSOP, ensuring players have an increasingly improved, safe, and seamless poker experience.”

“Under the new leadership, NSUS intends to expand WSOP worldwide, positioning it at the forefront of poker’s growth.”

In its history WSOP was already hosting its festivals worldwide starting in 2023 with WSOP Paradise in Bahamas, and they also announced festival will be back to the Caribbean this year in December.

WSOP Online Restricted

Caesars Digital will receive a license from NSUS to continue operating in the US, but they will be restricted from poker operations in the future due to sale procedures. The whole thing is expected to be solved by the end of 2024.

WSOP Europe Satellites are Running on GGPoker

GGPoker client introduced an online satellite series for the WSOPE Main Event. The first satellite, €1,050, started on July 21st, and there are other satellites starting from €12 where players can advance to higher-level satellites. WSOP Europe starts on September 18th and runs until October 9th. The festival will be at Kings Casino in Rozvadov.

The WSOPE Main Event starts on October 4th and will run until the 9th. The buy-in is €10,300, and it offers €5,000,000 GTD prize. Last Main Event Winner, Max Neugebauer won €1,5 million for the win. Last year, the Main Event had 817 entires, and this year organizes are expecting at least 400 qualifiers, but are hoping to break the last years record.

There were 1,124 players who qualified from GGPoker to 2024 WSOP $10,000 Main Event in Vegas, including Boris Angelov, who finished in fifth place for $2.5 million, and Joe Serock, who finished in eighth place for $1.25 million.
