2024 WSOP: Bucket List Achievement for Sean Jazayeri in $1,000 Super Seniors Event

The $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em is a unique and cherished event at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), exclusively for players aged 60 and above. This special tournament not only celebrates the love for poker among seasoned players but also sets the stage for remarkable records and stories. Just last year, the poker world had their eyes peeled as Billy Baxter nearly became the oldest WSOP bracelet winner.

While there was no such historical moment this year, Sean Jazayeri achieved his personal milestone by winning his first WSOP bracelet after a thrilling heads-up battle against Yucel Eminoglu. “I feel great, it’s always been on my bucket list. Hopefully, I’ll win a bracelet in an open event, too, but man, this is a dream come true,” Jazayeri shared with the WSOP after his victory.

The event attracted a massive field of 3,362 players, generating a prize pool of $2,958,560. Jazayeri pocketed the biggest piece of the pie, amounting to $368,025. This win marks his second-biggest career achievement, following his $1,370,240 triumph at the $10,000 WPT L.A. Poker Classic in 2012.

Runner-up Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu, a well-known figure in the UK poker scene, took home $238,748. Eminoglu entered Day 4 as the chip leader among the remaining eleven players and came very close to winning his first bracelet. However, fortune favored Jazayeri in the heads-up match.

“I hate playing short stack but it’s the easiest way to play. You either shove or you fold, and I was very lucky with a couple of hands like when I had ace-five against kings,” said Jazayeri. “Super, super lucky. Then I won a race with ace-queen against jacks, so it all worked out. Luck is a part of this game.”

Event #59: $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em Final Table Recap

Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu

Eleven players entered Day 4 of Event #59: $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em, each guaranteed at least $28,474. The pay jumps were critical with important ICM spots, as the stacks were closely matched, except for Yucel Eminoglu, who dominated with 80 big blinds. Buck Bucceri followed with 39 big blinds, and Sean Jazayeri with 35.

Philip Muller, the unfortunate final table bubble boy, shoved with KJ on a 2Q10 board. Eminoglu called with pocket kings, and with no help from the turn and river, the unofficial final table was formed. Gregory Nichols quickly exited in tenth place after shoving his last eight big blinds with ace-jack, only to be called by Jazayeri’s pocket queens.

The next elimination came after two hours of play, but the pace picked up as expected from this point on. Bucceri’s 109 couldn’t overcome Felix Barriga’s pocket aces, despite an open-ended straight draw on the 75K8 board. Kevin Song won his first bracelet in 1997, and now, 27 years later, he had a chance for another one. This would be quite a remarkable achievement for Korean-born Song, but his K10 didn’t hold against Manelic Minaya’s K7, who flopped stone-cold unbeatable nut flush on 2AJ.

Michael Minetti was next, with his pocket fours falling to Paul Runge’s ace-king. A big clash between chip leaders saw Barriga’s king-queen lose to Eminoglu’s pocket jacks, with Barriga only managing a gutshot straight draw. Eminoglu further extended his lead by knocking out Gary Fisher with Q9, completing a straight on the river against Fisher’s AJ.

As Minaya was knocked out in fourth place after going all-in on a K47 flop with top pair, he was disappointed to see Runge flop a set of kings. Sean Jazayeri started making his own run, skillfully navigating his way out of the short-stacked danger zone.

Eminoglu made a crucial call when Runge pushed all-in with 86 on a J57 flop. Despite only holding the second pair with 87, Eminoglu called, correctly believing that Runge was on a draw. The turn and river missed, and the heads-up battle for the bracelet was set.

Eminoglu started heads-up play with a 2:1 chip lead over Jazayeri and quickly extended it to 3:1. However, the match took a pivotal turn when Jazayeri called an all-in with A4 against Eminoglu’s Q10. Eminoglu was hoping for a queen or ten that would bring him a WSOP bracelet, but the board of 358 reduced his outs. The turn and river blanked, allowing Jazayeri to double up and even the stacks.

In the final hand, Jazayeri pushed all-in with A10, and Eminoglu called with A8. The flop of Q43 gave Jazayeri a nut flush draw in addition to his high cards. The turn brought an A, which didn’t change the situation, leaving Eminoglu with only three eights in the deck to save him. The river was a heart, completing Jazayeri’s flush and securing his first-ever WSOP bracelet.
