In a thrilling showdown at the 2024 World Series of Poker, Jared Kingery claimed the top spot in Event #44: $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em, securing a first-place prize of $410,359 and his maiden WSOP bracelet.
The tournament attracted 1,561 participants, creating a prize pool of $2,778,580. Kingery outlasted Javier Gomez in an intense heads-up duel, with Gomez earning $273,581 as the runner-up.
Kingery‘s victory was especially sweet, following his near-miss in the 2022 WSOP’s Event #5: $500 The Housewarming, where he finished as runner-up. This time, the Washington native celebrated his crowning moment on poker’s biggest stage.

A Longshoreman’s Triumph
Despite his success on the felt, Kingery remains rooted in his primary profession. “I’m definitely not a professional player, I’m actually a longshoreman back in Washington, so I don’t play that much,” said Kingery. “That Housewarming score was my first WSOP tournament ever. I was just sun-running.“
With only a nine-day window in Las Vegas and having missed last year’s series due to the birth of his daughter, Kingery made the most of his opportunity this year. His performance underlines his skill and tenacity in navigating through a highly competitive field to emerge victorious.
Final Day Action
Day 3 saw seventeen players return, with early eliminations including Barry Shulman, Michael Berk, Dillon Najor, and Edgard Saliba, each taking home $18,095.
As the final table neared, Juan Carlos Vecino eliminated Huihan Wu, setting the stage for the final ten. Gomez continued his dominant run, knocking out Nicholas Massey and Jon Glendinning.
Kavin Shah made significant moves, notably busting Narcis Nedelcu and winning a substantial pot against Gomez. However, Shah‘s run ended when Gomez eliminated him after a few more hands.
Yunkyu Song made a significant impact by eliminating Yasheel Doddanavar but faced setbacks after doubling up Javier Zarco and Kingery in consecutive hands.
Kingery‘s decisive moment came with a huge pot against Gomez, securing a nut straight and establishing a dominant chip lead. He then eliminated Vecino and continued to apply pressure, ultimately overcoming Song‘s ace-king to secure third place.
In the final heads-up, Kingery‘s A♠Q♣ held over Gomez‘s A♣J♠, sealing his victory and his well-deserved redemption.
