2024 WSOP: Magnus Edengren Triumphs in Event #43: $1,500 Mixed Omaha ($196,970)

Magnus Edengren is the big winner of Event #43: $1,500 Mixed: Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Big O (7-Handed) at the 2024 World Series of Poker. This mixed Omaha event saw Edengren defeat James Juvancic and Tim Seidensticker in rapid succession to claim his first WSOP bracelet and a top prize of $196,970.

The tournament attracted 853 entries, creating a prize pool of $1,138,755. Edengren‘s previous five WSOP cashes amounted to $59,649, but his performance in this event more than tripled his career earnings. Seidensticker finished as the runner-up, earning $131,308, while Juvancic secured $91,132 for his third-place finish. This event marked the largest WSOP cash for all three players.

Despite having largely stepped away from professional poker, Edengren enjoys occasional trips to Las Vegas for fun. “I haven’t started playing again. I just come to Vegas every year to have fun and then I play some tournaments,” he shared with a smile. “I don’t really play poker anymore at all. I stopped a long time ago and just play for fun.”

Edengren‘s first WSOP cashes came in 2013 and 2018, primarily in four and five-card split pot games, his preferred formats. He previously finished 19th in Event #40: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet six years ago, earning $4,470. More recently, he finished 12th in Event #24: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, winning $28,891, and cashed in Event #37: $10,000 Big O Championship for $20,306.

“The different Omaha variants have been my favorite game as that’s what I specialized in when I started playing poker. I knew all the math and now I know nothing, I just have fun,” Edengren admitted. He remains uninterested in two-card Hold’em, preferring four-card games. “Just four cards for me. If there are any of those tournaments while I am in Las Vegas, I will play them.”

Final Day Action

Day 3 was grueling, reducing the field from 22 to the final three, with much attention on Phil Hellmuth, who ultimately finished fourth. The unscheduled extra day was brief, ending after just half an hour.

Starting as the chip leader, Edengren leveraged his position with high limits to apply pressure. Juvancic first fell short, missing a flopped wheel draw and losing a significant portion of his stack. Seidensticker also succumbed to Edengren‘s aggression.

The decisive moments came in two Big O hands. Juvancic and Edengren clashed on a 987 flop, both holding jack-high straights with potential for higher straights. Running clubs, however, left Juvancic empty-handed, propelling Edengren into a commanding heads-up lead against Seidensticker.

Tim Seidensticker

The final hand saw Seidensticker ahead with two pair and a queen-high flush draw on a 1062 flop. Edengren had top pair and a king-high flush draw. AK on the river gave Edengren better two pair, and no low hand emerged, securing his victory.

As for Edengren, the rest of the day remained uncertain. “I don’t know actually, I am in kind of a bubble right now. Maybe I will go watch my friends play poker and have fun,” he concluded, heading to the payout desk to celebrate his triumph.
