2024 WSOP: Nick Schulman Wins Fifth Bracelet in Event #26: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em

High-stakes poker pro and commentator Nick Schulman secured his fifth World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet by triumphing in Event #18: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed). This victory not only adds another prestigious bracelet to Schulman’s collection but also marks a significant milestone in his illustrious poker career as it is Schulman’s first non-mixed game bracelet.

Schulman’s Dominant Performance

Schulman’s path to victory was nothing short of dominant. Early in the final table, he won a significant flip against Noel Rodriguez, doubling up and establishing a commanding chip lead. This hand set the stage for Schulman’s relentless run, where he went on to eliminate five of his seven final table opponents.

Reflecting on the pivotal hand, Schulman said, “It felt incredible. Everybody who’s played poker tournaments has a lot of residual trauma … And holding there was amazing. And then that set up where there was one big chip leader … It’s pretty rare. And a very special setup to find yourself in.

The event saw a record 318 entries, surpassing the 301 entries from the previous year and creating a prize pool of $7,473,000.

A Notable Win

Schulman’s previous four bracelets were all in mixed game variants, including 2-7 Lowball Draw, Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, and Seven Card Stud. His last victory was in the 2023 Event #9: $1,500 Seven Card Stud, earning $110,800.

This high roller event saw Schulman breaking his high roller NLH bracelet event dry spell. He previously finished third in the 2019 $100,000 NLH High Roller for $1,187,802 and fifth in the 2023 WSOP Paradise $100K High Roller for $731,000.

Final Table Highlights

The final table was packed with talent, including six-time bracelet winner Shaun Deeb, who finished eighth and was looking for his seventh bracelet. He began second in chips but saw his two pair lose to a gutshot draw and subsequently fell victim to Rodriguez’s trip kings. Deeb’s final hand saw his AK fall to Lyall’s 66, failing to improve on the board.

Schulman continued to dominate, eliminating Li, Perez, Heath, and Stamm. Noel Rodriguez, despite starting heads-up play with a short stack, managed to show a good effort, but ultimately finishing second. The heads-up match concluded as Schulman’s QJ held against Rodriguez’s A9 flush draw on a J83 flop, sealing the victory.

Schulman’s Reflection

Schulman, who turns 40 later this year, is now eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame. While he remains focused on his game, the potential honor of being inducted is a significant milestone on the horizon. “As it goes with something like that, that’s not up to me,” Schulman remarked. “But, of course, I’m a big sports fan, and, you know, Hall of Fame has a great ring to it.”
