WSOP 2024: John Fauver Triumphs in Inaugural $10,000 Big O Championship, Takes Home $681,998

The 2024 World Series of Poker introduced a brand-new event to its prestigious lineup: the $10,000 Big O Championship. This high-stakes Omaha variant attracted a field of 332 players, creating a substantial prize pool of $3,087,600. Ultimately, it was John Fauver who claimed victory, securing his first WSOP bracelet and a hefty $681,998 in prize money.

The introduction of the $10,000 Big O Championship follows last year’s successful debut of the $1,500 Big O event, which saw Scott Abrams winning in a field of 1,458 players. This year’s higher buy-in event continued to build on that momentum, offering significant payouts for the top 50 finishers, with a minimum cash prize of $20,306.

Reflecting on his victory, Fauver expressed his disbelief and excitement. “It’s pretty cool that this is the first time this tournament has ever run,” he said. “It really doesn’t even feel real yet. Ask me tomorrow if it has set in.”

Prior to this event, Fauver‘s total live tournament earnings stood at $251,061, according to Hendon Mob. With his latest triumph, his career earnings now total $933,014, bringing him close to the $1 million milestone.

Calvin Anderson

Calvin Anderson, a four-time WSOP bracelet winner and former #1-ranked online player in the world, made an impressive run, ultimately finishing in second place for $454,668. Anderson now has over $5.5M in live tournament earnings.

Final Day Action

The final day saw rapid eliminations, with the field whittling down from 19 to 8 players in under four hours. Notable bracelet winners like Adam Friedman (18th – $25,340), Ryan Hughes (17th – $25,340), and Anson Tsang (14th – $30,800) were among those who fell short of the final table.

The last elimination before the final table was French bracelet winner David Benyamine, whose queen-high straight was outdone by Farid Jattin‘s flush, sending Benyamine out in ninth place for $48,582.

Final Table Action

Danny Wong, who had an impressive summer at the WSOP, was the first to exit the final table. His ace-king-ten-seven-two couldn’t improve against Jattin‘s king-ten-ten-seven-two, leaving Wong in eighth place with $62,985.

Michael Rocco was the next to go, his ace-ten-eight-four-three falling to Nitesh Rawtani‘s ace-king-four-four-three after Rawtani rivered a king to scoop the pot, finishing in seventh place for $83,359.

Alfred Atamian followed, losing with aces and eights against Jattin‘s kings, which improved to quads, placing Atamian in sixth for $112,573.

Dylan Weisman, who already had a successful WSOP run, was eliminated in fifth place for $155,065. His top pair, top kicker couldn’t hold against Jattin‘s full wrap.

With three players remaining, Calvin Anderson, a two-time bracelet winner, eliminated Jattin with ace-king-ten-four-three against Jattin‘s eight-six-four-three-two. Jattin exited in fourth place for $217,783.

Anderson then knocked out Rawtani in third place ($311,737) with ace-queen-jack-five-four overcoming ace-jack-ten-seven-two on a favorable runout.

Heads-Up Play

Entering heads-up play, Fauver held a slight chip lead over Anderson. He quickly expanded his lead, applying maximum pressure. The final hand saw Anderson‘s aces and a gutshot against Fauver‘s top set. Despite hitting his straight on the turn, Anderson lost to Fauver‘s full house on the river. Anderson finished in second place, earning $454,688.

John Fauver‘s victory in the $10,000 Big O Championship not only earned him a coveted WSOP bracelet but also etched his name in poker history as the event’s inaugural champion.
