Michael Liang won World Series of Poker event #93: $777 Lucky 7s No-Limit Hold’em for $777,777, beating the field of 6,292 entries, which generated a prize pool of $4,302,218. Liang won a heads-up battle against Duc Nguyen, who finished in second place and earned $300,777.
PokerNews asked Liang how he was feeling after his first WSOP win “It feels amazing. I’ve had a few close calls in the past. I’ve had a second place, a third place and a fifth place, so it feels good to finally break through.” said Liang.
Michael Liang is currently ranked 370th in US All-Time Money List, with total live earnings of $3,195,348. This win is Liang’s most significant payout in live MTTs, and his first WSOP bracelet.

The Final Table
The unofficial final table started on day two of the event with eight players remaining. After two eliminations, the final table action continued on day 3.
Ilija Savevski was the first to leave the final table when he shoved from BTN against MP open from Nguyen, who called. Savevski was ahead, holding K♣K♥ vs Nguyen’s K♦Q♦ until the dealer showed J♠10♠A♠ on the flop. Savevski was praying for a queen to split, but the turn was 3♠, and the river was 2♦, and Savevski was out in eighth place for $46,542.
Next on the line was Lukas Hafner, who raised from BB against Nguyen’s SB limp. Nguyen 3-bet, Hafner went all-in, and Nguyen called. This time, Nguyen was ahead with A♠Q♠ against Hafner’s A♥J♥. The board ran 7♦2♦5♥7♣6♣ showing no jacks, and Hafner was out in seventh place for $60,777.
Jorge Postigo got unlucky when he shoved with A♠A♥ from BB vs. Liang, who called from SB holding 4♣4♠. The flop Q♣3♦3♣ was good for Postigo, but the turn was 4♦, leaving Postigo with just two outs. The river came Q♥, and that was the end of the road for Postigo, who finished his run in sixth place for $80,777.
Mitch Garshofsky was short-stacked with just five big blinds before he jammed with A♥4♣ from CO and got called by Nguyen with A♠J♠ in SB. Nguyen had domination again, and the board A♣Q♥8♦2♠K♦ was favorable again. Garshofsky was out in fifth place for $105,777.
Manoj Batavia was all-in from BTN with A♠10♠, and he got called by Nguyen with K♦10♦. This time, Nguyen wasn’t ahead, but he had poker gods on his side, hitting king on the turn when the board ran 3♥5♣5♠K♥Q♦. Nguyen eliminated Batavia in fourth place for $141,777.
Nguyen continued with eliminations, and Rajesh Mehta was next. Mehta moved all-in with J♦6♦ and got called by Nguyen with Q♠10♥. The flop came Q♦3♥8♣, giving the lead to Nguyen, but the turn 9♣ gave a little bit of hope to Mehta until the river 4♥ sent him to the rails. Mehta finished in third place for $190,777.
The Heads-Up
After eliminating almost all of the players from the final talbe Nguyen was ahead in chips before the first heads-up hand was played.
Nguyen raised from BB after Liang limped from SB and called the raise. The flop was 10♥4♣6♥ Nguyen led, and Liang called. The turn came K♦, and Nguyen continued to barrel. Liang waited for a few moments before he announced he was all-in; Nguyen snap-called. Liang was ahead with two pairs holding K♠4♠ against Nguyen’s J♠J♣. The river was 2♣, and Liang was the new champion. Nguyen ran out of luck and was eliminated in second place for $300,777.
