WSOP 2024: Michael Rocco Wins His First WSOP Bracelet in Event #94: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship

Michael Rocco won World Series of Poker event #94: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship (6-Handed) for $924,922, beating the field of 418 competitors, who generated a prize pool of $3,887,400. Rocco won a heads-up battle against Alexandre Reard, who finished in second place, earning $610,013. This win earned Rocco his first WSOP bracelet.

“I woke up at four in the morning for 98 days straight and studied for six hours daily. I feel like it helped me at this tournament. I was quite short most of the time. I think I would have played a few hands differently had I not studied. It ended up working out.” Rocco said.

Michael Rocco is currently ranked 151th in US All-Time Money List, with total live earnings of $6,120,351. This win of $924,922 is Rocco’s most significant payout in live MTTs.

The Final Table

Egor Procop was the first elimination on the final table; Reard opened from CO, Dimitrov shoved from SB, Procop called from BB, and Reard folded. Procop was in a bad spot with [invalid notations]. The flop made things even worse for Procop when the dealer put down 9J5, but the turn Q gave him an open ender before the river 6 shut down all of the hope. Procop was eliminated in sixth place for $142,316.

Adrian Mateos raised from CO, Reard 3-bet from BTN, Mateos shoved, and Reard called for a few extra chips. Mateos had him dominated with 99 since Reard was holding [invalid notations] was a disaster for Mateos, leaving him with just one out. The turn was 2, and the river was 6. Mateos was eliminated in fifth place for $192,261.

Next one to hit the exit was Aram Zobian when he shoved from SB against Reard’s BTN open-call. Zobian was at risk with A6 against Reard’s 1010. The board was 48Q109 leaving Zobian drawing dead on the turn. Zobian finished his run in fourth place for $282,302.

The third place was reserved for Aleks Dimitrov, who checked in the BB against an open limp from Reard in SB. The flop was 945, and Reard check-called a bet from Dimitrov. The turn was 7, and Reard check-shoved, and Dimitrov called. Reard had 75 vs Dimitrov’s 54; Dimitrov didn’t improve on the river and was eliminated in third place for $410,657.

The Heads-Up

Going into the heads-up Reard had around 2.5:1 chip lead, but there was still lots of poker to play.

Reard opened from BTN, and Rocco called in BB. Players saw a flop of 4Q5 where Rocco check-called the bet from Reard. The turn was 3; Rocco checked, Reard continued to bet, Rocco shoved, and Reard snap-called. Rocco had 43 against Reard’s Q5. Reard was the heavy favorite to win the hand with a better two-pair, but the river 3 was fortunate for Rocco, giving him the win. Reard was eliminated in second place for $610,013.
