Jonathan Tamayo won the WSOP Main Event and got his most significant Live MTT score, winning $10,000,000. But it’s not a rare thing when big money moves; there is often controversy. The same thing happened this time: there was a controversial situation at the final table of the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event where friends who were supporting Jonathan Tamayo used a solver between hands and gave advice to Tamayo.
This is where it started. Alan Keating mentioned it on social media, saying that it was not within the spirit of the game and that none of his friends liked it. Mike Matusow also said he would rather see an amateur guy win and that final table tourney poker is broken.
Other people were also concerned about how this would affect the growth of the game and its attractiveness to new players. If we put ourselves in the eyes of a casual viewer, most would consider this cheating or an unfair advantage even tho Tamayo’s team didn’t break any official rules.
There was also a person in the comments who said, “Several people on the rail had video of your laptop towards the stage. Tamayo told you stack sizes and you typed them in. On video, he even came and told you again. What were those inputs for if not a sim?” and Nitsche just responded with “None of your business. My coaching hourly is 1k/h”
This is how this controversial situation and Dominik Nitsche’s X activity gained more traction than the fact that Tamayo won the biggest poker event of the year.
Fedor Holz, who is one of the most respected professional players and current GGPoker integrity ambassador, gave his opinion on the subject.
We can be sure of two things: none of the rules were broken and Tamayo is legit WSOP Main Event champion, and we won’t see any laptops in the rail next year.
