The Diamond €10,000 PLO High Roller at The Grand Big Wrap series in King’s Resort, Rozvadov, was the talk of the poker town with its jaw-dropping €2,000,000 guarantee. Many big PL Omaha names confirmed their participation, making it a record-breaking event with 221 entries. This achievement set a new European record, edging past the guarantee as the prize pool surged to an impressive €2,036,515. Quan Zhou from China emerged as the victor, clinching the title with a cool half a million euros to his name after besting Finnish pro Eelis Pärssinen.
The action-packed Omaha saw the tournament extend into an additional day, with the final six battling on Friday to determine the champion. Even the last day stretched into a marathon session of 6 hours.
Zhou began the day as the formidable chip leader, holding over a third of all chips on the table. In stark contrast, Cailin Jin was hanging by a thread with a mere five big blinds. Despite this disadvantage, Jin managed to ladder, outlasting Vasil Medarov. The latter bowed out in 6th place, while Jin claimed the 5th spot. The 4th position went to Alex Livingston, courtesy of Pärssinen.
As the game progressed, Pärssinen took a significant lead, continuing his dominance till the heads-up, even after Zhou eliminated Anton Suarez to secure the third spot. Most of the heads-up battle saw Eelis maintaining and extending his lead. However, Zhou’s relentless spirit, big bluffs, and a pinch of luck allowed him to claw back from a 5:1 deficit.
In the final hand, a flop of 4d2h2c indicated a flurry of action as both players flopped trips, but the Finn held the edge with better kickers. On a Jd turn, Pärssinen checked/raised all-in, and Zhou called, being a 30:70 underdog with a flush draw and some other out. The third diamond on the river completed his flush, sealing his victory and clinching the title, while Pärssinen had to settle for the runner-up position and €327,000 in prize money.
