LIVE Reporting: Pure Poker Tour Series #5

PPT staff have barely had time to break down the tables from PPT #4 at Pure Casino Yellowhead and it’s almost time for the penultimate series of the 2024 season. Series #5 is across town at Pure Casino Edmonton and is a shortened schedule from the full series with just one week of poker action and 11 events.

The first PPT branded action for Series #5 kicks off at 1 pm Sunday, Oct 13 with a 1 in 10 satellite game for $T equivalent to entry in all open events for the series. Buy-in for the game is $430 ($390 + $40) and players start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels.

There is more satellite action on Oct 14 with main series action kicking off on Oct 15 with the Seniors First at noon, an open NLH game starting at 4 pm, and a satellite game at 7 pm. That kicks off seven days of PPT action that includes the ever-popular 6-Max and PLO Big Bounty games as well as the two-flight Main Event and the $2k “Series Saver” High Roller to finish it out.

  • Daniel Lefebvre Wins High Roller (Again!) for $20,880

Daniel Lefebvre, Winner of the High Roller

He took a bit of a hiatus from the winner’s circle, but with his fourth win in the last two seasons, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the PPT High Roller needs to be renamed to the Daniel Lefebvre Classic. After winning the final three High Rollers of the 2023 season, Lefebvre added a 4th High Roller trophy to his growing collection today after taking down Alex Liu heads up.

Lefebvre won the SIGA Poker Championship in 2018, so with the three High Roller wins from last year, this makes for his 5th live win and the prize money should push his lifetime earnings to around $325k USD.

Liu is fresh off his big Main Event win in Calgary a couple of months ago and this makes for another decent score this year.

    Deven Lane

They are heads up now after Deven Lane lost his short stack. He shoved the button with a suited ace-eight and Alex Liu called the big blind with king-queen off.

Liu spiked a king on the flop, but Lane flopped a backdoor straight draw and turned to the front door, but then paired his eight on the river, not enough to best the flopped king for Liu.

Yamagishi fired 12k on the 4J6 flop and Lane called to the J turn. Yaagishi fired 40k, leaving just 1k behind, and Lane flatted. The 10 river completed the board and Yamagishi put his last 1k into the middle and Lane called.

Yamagishi showed pocket queens, but the jack-ten for Lane hit the riverboat for a huge win, sending Yamagishi to the rail for 4th place.
