LIVE Reporting: Pure Poker Tour Series #5

PPT staff have barely had time to break down the tables from PPT #4 at Pure Casino Yellowhead and it’s almost time for the penultimate series of the 2024 season. Series #5 is across town at Pure Casino Edmonton and is a shortened schedule from the full series with just one week of poker action and 11 events.

The first PPT branded action for Series #5 kicks off at 1 pm Sunday, Oct 13 with a 1 in 10 satellite game for $T equivalent to entry in all open events for the series. Buy-in for the game is $430 ($390 + $40) and players start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels.

There is more satellite action on Oct 14 with main series action kicking off on Oct 15 with the Seniors First at noon, an open NLH game starting at 4 pm, and a satellite game at 7 pm. That kicks off seven days of PPT action that includes the ever-popular 6-Max and PLO Big Bounty games as well as the two-flight Main Event and the $2k “Series Saver” High Roller to finish it out.

They are down to 29 left now with 15 minutes to play in Level 13 and among the players still alive are all the big stacks I previously reported, as well as Paul Brar, Daniel Lefebvre, Ian Alvarado, Andy Wong, Lapchi Duong, Julius Roque, Ed Zurawell, Kyle Hartree, Deven Lane (who won the Turbo last night), Ron Lauzon, Kris Steinbach, Leo Zhang, Colten Yamagishi, Pete Fylyma, Holly Berry, Cliff Green, and Daniel O’Leary.

  • 15 Off the Bags

    Level:13 (1,500/3,000/3,000)
    Entries:33/133 (46/226)
    Prizes:$212,553

They are dow to 33 players left in 1b now with the bags set to come out with 18 left. That leaves just 15 eliminations until Day 1b is complete and the Day 2 field is set.

  • Jay Tran Leads The Way

    Level:13 (1,500/3,000/3,000)
    Entries:35/133 (48/226)
    Prizes:$212,553

The players are just about to return from the break and I’ve had a look around at a few stacks. It looks like Sep 2023 Main Event winner Jay Tran has the big stack right now with 246k but Cindy Grabia also has a 200k+ stack in front of her. Jayvee Lumahan, who was third in the Main that Tran won, has 173k while Preston Stevenson is playing 169k.

  • Down to 41

    Level:12 (1,500/2,500/2,500)
    Entries:41/133 (54/226)
    Prizes:$212,553

There are 41 players left in 1b now with 30 minutes to play in Level 12. There is a break following this level and I’ll have a look around then for some big stacks to see who is challenging Day 1a leader Daniel Hicks.

  • $3,300 to the Winning Team

    Level:9 (1,000/1,500/1,500)
    Entries:24/41
    Prizes:$7,790

Four teams will be getting a pice of $7,790 in prizes later tonight in the Tag Team event. They ended entries with 41 in total and the winners will be pocketing $3,300 at the end of the night. Defending champs Rob Lothian and Brent Baxter are among the teams in the mix.

  • 133 Entries Confirmed; Almost $40k for 1st

    Level:11 (1,000/2,000/2,000)
    Entries:46/133 (59/226)
    Prizes:$212,553

The prizes are in and the 1b field is confirmed at 133 entries for a combined total of 226. That puts $212,553 into the prize pool for Day 2 with the winner set to pocket $39,210. Full prizes are listed under the Payouts tab.

  • 32 Entries in the Mix

    Level:5 (300/600/600)
    Entries:27/32
    Prizes:$6,080

There are still about 40 minutes to enter the Team game tonight with the field currently at 32 entries with 27 teams still in play. That puts the prizes at just over $6k.

  • Entries Closed with 133 Unofficial

    Level:10 (1,000/1,500/1,500)
    Entries:63/133 (76/226)
    Prizes:$212,553

The players are back in their seats for Level 10 which means entries are now closed for this Main Event. The final number on the board (still awaiting verification) is 133 entries for 1b for a two-day total of 226.

If these numbers hold, it should mean 18 players bag tonight for 31 returning on Sunday’s Day 2 to battle for $212,553 in prizes. I’ll confirm all the numbers shortly when the prizes are posted.

  • 20 Minutes to Enter the Main

    Level:9 (600/1,200/1,200)
    Entries:61/130 (74/223)
    Prizes:$209,732

There are about 20 minutes left to enter the Main Event and the combined prizes are one entry shy of $210k right now. There are 130 entries on the board today for a combined total of 223 but it seems likely we’ll see a couple more entries just before they sit down for Level 10 in 20 minutes.
