PPT staff have barely had time to break down the tables from PPT #4 at Pure Casino Yellowhead and it’s almost time for the penultimate series of the 2024 season. Series #5 is across town at Pure Casino Edmonton and is a shortened schedule from the full series with just one week of poker action and 11 events.
The first PPT branded action for Series #5 kicks off at 1 pm Sunday, Oct 13 with a 1 in 10 satellite game for $T equivalent to entry in all open events for the series. Buy-in for the game is $430 ($390 + $40) and players start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels.
There is more satellite action on Oct 14 with main series action kicking off on Oct 15 with the Seniors First at noon, an open NLH game starting at 4 pm, and a satellite game at 7 pm. That kicks off seven days of PPT action that includes the ever-popular 6-Max and PLO Big Bounty games as well as the two-flight Main Event and the $2k “Series Saver” High Roller to finish it out.

Zurawell Gets River Value
Level: 20 (10,000/15,0000/15,000) Entries: 5/93 Prizes: $26,505 The board was already out when I arrived at the table reading 7♥2♥9♦8♣4♦. Ed Zurawell was in the small blind and he put in a big bet of 150k, sending button Weston Pring in the tank.
He muttered to himself for a couple of minutes trying to work out the hand before finally making a one-chip call. Zurawell showed J♥10♥ for the turned straight and flush draw whole Pring sent his cards to the muck.

Nadav Bitton: 3♣3♦
Bash Ramahi: A♣Q♣It was a race bit Ramahi sprinted to the lead on the flop when the board ran out 6♣10♦A♠10♥4♦ and Bitton couldn’t catch up.
-

Level: 20 (10,000/15,000/15,000) Entries: 6/93 Prizes: $26,505 They are down to six now after Holly Berry ran into a cooler on her big blind. Brian Wells raised the hijack to 40k, then called it off when Berry shoved her big blind. She was on A♥Q♠ but ran into A♠K♥ for Wells. Both players turned Broadway draws on the 4♠9♣10♦J♠3♠ board but ultimately, the Wells’ ace-high, king kicker took it down.

There are about 10 minutes left in this level and they’ll rack up the chips to move to poker when this level is complete.

Ryan Comely Wins PLO Big Bounty for $7,532 plus 8 Bounties
The PLO Bounty game is now over with Ryan Comely emerging as the big winner. He defeated fellow Edmontonian Kris Steinbach after a lengthy heads-up battle that saw the lead flip between each player a couple of times.
One huge turning point for Comely came in a hand where he put Steiner to the test for all his chips on the river of a wrapped board. Steinbach tanked for a long time before mucking his hand, showing the low end of a straight. After Steiner folded, Comely showed two-pair for a well-executed bluff.
Comely is no stranger to winning at poker, He has more than $700k in winnings and almost a full page of wins on his Hendon Mob page. This was his second PPT trophy after he picked up a Mystery Bounty win last year on the Tour.

Kris Steinbach Out in 2nd Place for
Level: 22 (15,000/25,000/25,000) Entries: 1/55 Prizes: $31,350 ($20,350 prizes, $11,000 bounties) It was a loud but friendly battle between Ryan Comely and Kris Steonbach in the end, though to be fair, it was Steiner doing most of the talking. The two friends battled heads up for more than a level and the lead changed back and forth a few times.
One big turning point came when Steinbach was forced off a baby straight by Comely in a huge pot, and it didn’t take too long after that before it all went in.
The final showdown was A♠K♦8♣2♥ for Comely against Q♥10♥8♥6♣ for Steinbach. Comely flopped two pair A♣5♣2♦5♥6♠ board and that was good to take it all down for the win.

Steiner Folds Straight After Massive Tank
Level: 22 (15,000/25,000/25,000) Entries: 2/55 Prizes: $31,350 ($20,350 prizes, $11,000 bounties) It was a long hand that saw Kris Steinbach tank for around 8 minutes on the turn, and another five minutes on the river before mucking his hand. I picked up the action on the turn with the board reading [invalid notations] when Ryan Comely check-potted over a 40k bet from Steiner.
Steiner made the call after a huge tank, but then hit the tank again when Comely potted the 10♦ river, enough to put Steinbach all in. After about five minutes of “Steiner talk” he elected to much, showing a baby straight with five-six. Comely showed a seven-eight for two pair while collecting the pot.
-
Bubble Time
Level: 17 (4,000/8,000/8,000) Entries: 10/93 Prizes: $26,505 They are on the bubble now in the side game but I’m still over watching the PLO Bounty heads-up.
-
Queens Hold for Comely
Level: 21 (10,000/20,000/20,000) Entries: 2/55 Prizes: $31,350 ($20,350 prizes, $11,000 bounties) Kris Steinbach limp-called when Ryan Comely potted preflop. It all kicked off on the 3♦9♠10♥ flop when Comely potted and Steiner repotted to put Comely all in.
“I have a monster wrap,” Steinbach said as Comely called his stack off. Steiner had six-seven-eight-jack, but he bricked out the rest of the board to leave Comely’s queens the best hand.

“Can You Beat Nine-High?” “I Cannot.”
Level: 21 (10,000/20,000/20,000) Entries: 2/55 Prizes: $31,350 ($20,350 prizes, $11,000 bounties) There wasn’t a lot of action after they both limped preflop and then checked down the 8♣A♣10♠10♥10♣ board.
“Can you beat nine-high?” asked Kris Steinbach.
“I cannot,” replied Ryan Comely with a smile, giving Smith the small pot with just nine-high.
