PPT staff have barely had time to break down the tables from PPT #4 at Pure Casino Yellowhead and it’s almost time for the penultimate series of the 2024 season. Series #5 is across town at Pure Casino Edmonton and is a shortened schedule from the full series with just one week of poker action and 11 events.
The first PPT branded action for Series #5 kicks off at 1 pm Sunday, Oct 13 with a 1 in 10 satellite game for $T equivalent to entry in all open events for the series. Buy-in for the game is $430 ($390 + $40) and players start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels.
There is more satellite action on Oct 14 with main series action kicking off on Oct 15 with the Seniors First at noon, an open NLH game starting at 4 pm, and a satellite game at 7 pm. That kicks off seven days of PPT action that includes the ever-popular 6-Max and PLO Big Bounty games as well as the two-flight Main Event and the $2k “Series Saver” High Roller to finish it out.

6-Max Time
Event: Event#3: $560 6-Max Date: Oct 16, 1 pm Blinds: 30 Min Starting Stack: 25,000 Late Entry: 8 Levels (~5:45 pm) It’s time for the 6-Max, which is generally one of the more popular events on the schedule. The action kicks off at 1 pm on Wednesday with 30-minute blinds and a 25k starting stack. Players will have 8 levels to buy into the game which should put the final chance to enter at about 5:45.
This game will be my main focus for Wednesday. There is also the NLH/PLO Mix that starts at 4 pm for players who prefer 9-handed play (or like a bit of four-card action thrown in) but I’ll be focused on this one until the crown a winner.

Jose Carpio Wins E2 After 5-Way Deal
The Turbo game, which started four hours later than the Seniors game, finished before it by the clock. Event #2 was done and dusted after about 8 hours of play while the Seniors will still three-ways at their final table across the room. As a result, I had very little chance to watch any action on this game.
I do know a deal was discussed with play six-handed but was rejected by Shah Mohammed, the eventual 6th place finisher. Once Mohammed was gone, the remaining players quickly agreed to chop it up with the trophy and win going to big stack Jose Carpio. One interesting note is that included in the dealing players was Grace Quijano, who took 3rd tonight. She and Carpio are a couple off the tables, and they also both survived the Survivor game in the previous series.
Full prizes are loaded under the Payouts tab, as well as pasted below. Note that the official casino payouts are the ones I am posting as I’m not 100% certain on the deal specifics. I think they chopped evenly, but I didn’t confirm that so am posting the original payout numbers.
Place Player Country Prize 1 Jose Carpio $5,354 2 Omar Ammar $3,511 3 Grace Quijano $2,340 4 Thurston Kesteris $1,672 5 Josie Brown $1,254 6 Shah Mohammed $902 7 Brent Baxter $702 8 Lars Bird $551 9 Naleen Narayan $434 2024 PPT Series #5 Event #2 Final Payouts -
Kim Graham Wins Seniors Event for $7,271
They played for a bit more than 12 hours to decide a winner in the Seniors game and after about a level of heads up play, Kim Graham took down the game over previous winner Brett Worton. Both players have a decent record here on the PPT with Worton winning this event in 2022, and Graham coming runner-up, with his twin brother Keith, in the team event in Series #1 this season. I previously reported they won the event, but I had a brain fart and Kim reminded me that they got it in good against twins Kyle and Ryan Strap, but ultimately lost when the Strap brothers got there against them
Graham had the chip lead to start the final table and held onto it pretty much the whole way through. Runner-up Worton was his main competition for the lead, but Graham always seemed a step ahead when I looked at the stacks. By the time the final hand was played, however, Worton was chipped down to around 200k. He woke up with an ace and got it in, but ran into pocket jacks for Graham. In this case, Graham’s best hand held for him to take down his second career win, but his first in over a decade.
Full prizes are under the Payouts tab and listed below.
Place Player Home Prize 1 Kim Graham Millet, AB $7,271 2 Brett Worton Edmonton, AB $4,916 3 Tim Salangsan Edmonton, AB $3,206 4 Carl Schelpe Sherwood Park, AB $2,137 5 Mick (Michael) Enzie Edmonton, AB $1,410 6 Roy Bjorklund AB, CAN $1,026 7 Ron Taylor AB, CAN $790 8 Parker Hrushka CAN $619 Final Results from 2024 PPT Series #5 Event #1 Seniors -
Brett Worton Out in 2nd Place for $4,916
The Seniors game is over with Brett Worton ending his day in 2nd place. He was always behind during the heads up game, though they were about 900k to 600k at one point. That was the closest Worton got, however, and he’d been chipped down to just about 200k.
He woke up with an ace-eight and got it in but unfortunately, he ran into pocket jacks for Kim Graham. Worton called for the ace but the board bricked on him and all the chips went to Graham.

Deal Time
Level: 22 (15,000/25,000/25,000) Entries: 2/75 Prizes: $21,375 Shah Mohammed was 6th place tonight and the final five players cut a deal once he busted. They’d discussed a deal 6 ways, but Mohammed wasn’t interested, leaving it open for the deal to be made. The final five chopped it evenly, and I’ll get the final payouts updated shortly from my hotel room. Josie Brown, Thurston Kesteris, Grace Quijano, Omar Ammar, and Jose Carpio were the five players involved in the deal with Carpio taking the official win.

Graham Still Leads
Level: 22 (15,000/25,000/25,000) Entries: 2/75 Prizes: $21,375 Level 22 has just kicked off with Kim Graham in the lead. He has about 1.3 million in front of him to about 200k for Brett Worton.

Worton Heroes Small Flush
Level: 21 (10,000/20,000/20,000) Entries: 2/75 Prizes: $21,375 Both players limped preflop to see 9♦9♥Q♦. They checked it again to the 3♦ turn where Graham check-raised from 30k to 100k. Worton called and the river was 4♦. Graham bet 100k and Worton called it off quickly. Graham showed a black ace-eight against Q♥5♦ for the small flush and the win.

Graham Leads Heads Up
Level: 21 (10,000/20,000/20,000) Entries: 2/75 Prizes: $21,375 Kim Graham has 831k for the lead right now, while Brett Worton is playing 669k. They are still on the break following Level 20 and will be back in action in about 10 minutes.

Tim Salangsan Out in 3rd Place for $3,206
Level: 20 (10,000/15,000/15,000) Entries: 2/75 Prizes: $21,375 I missed the action while writing up the previous bust but Tim Salangsan took third place tonight to get the game heads up between Kim Graham and Brett Worton. Both players are champions here on the PPT as Worton has won this seniors game a few times while Kim Graham took down a Tag Team event earlier in the year playing with his twin brother.

Carl Schelpe Out in 4th Place for $2,137
Level: 20 (10,000/15,000/15,000) Entries: 3/75 Prizes: $21,375 They are down to three left now after Carl Schelpe lost his stack to table captain Kim Graham. Graham raised his button to 45k and Schelpe raised it up to 115k. Graham called and the flop was 8♠K♠2♠.
Schelpe check-called for 70k and the turn was 2♣. Schelpe checked again, then hit the tank when Graham shoved the covering stack. Eventually, Schelpe decided there wasn’t much to hand around for and he got the rest in.
Graham was on trip ducks with J♦2♦ against A♣4♠ for Schelpe. The river 3♦ bricked out for Schelpe and he was out in 3rd place.
