PPT staff have barely had time to break down the tables from PPT #4 at Pure Casino Yellowhead and it’s almost time for the penultimate series of the 2024 season. Series #5 is across town at Pure Casino Edmonton and is a shortened schedule from the full series with just one week of poker action and 11 events.
The first PPT branded action for Series #5 kicks off at 1 pm Sunday, Oct 13 with a 1 in 10 satellite game for $T equivalent to entry in all open events for the series. Buy-in for the game is $430 ($390 + $40) and players start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels.
There is more satellite action on Oct 14 with main series action kicking off on Oct 15 with the Seniors First at noon, an open NLH game starting at 4 pm, and a satellite game at 7 pm. That kicks off seven days of PPT action that includes the ever-popular 6-Max and PLO Big Bounty games as well as the two-flight Main Event and the $2k “Series Saver” High Roller to finish it out.

Down to 20
Level: 17 (4,000/8,000/8,000) Entries: 20/226 Prizes: $212,553 Shariq Khan was left on fumes just before the break after losing a big hand to Daniel Lefebvre’s aces and he came back to Level 17 with just 11k. That lasted all of one hand once he returned, so he was the 21st place finisher today.

Last Chance for a Trophy
Event: Event #11: $230 Little Bounty ($150 + $50 + $30) Date: Oct 20, 7 pm Blinds: 20 Min Starting Stack: 20,000 Late Entry: 6 Levels (~9:15 pm) The final chance for a trophy in this series starts at 7 pm on Sunday night with the Little Bounty. Technically, the Series Saver trophy will be awarded after this one, but this is the final event on the schedule for this series.
Players get 20k in chips to start and play 20-minute levels all day. $150 of the buy-in goes to prizes while each player has a $50 bounty on their head. This is a straight bounty game, so there is no progressive aspect to the bounties — everytime you bust another player, you’ll get an extra $50 for your pocket,
I likely won’t have much time to focus on this one. My main focus for the day will be the Main Event followed by the Series Saver when the Main finishes. If this one is still running after both of those are done, I may make it over to cover the endgame. That said, I have an early start on Monday with the Series Saver Day 2 kicking off at noon, so this one MIGHT get ignored.

Down to Three Tables Remaining
Level: 16 (3,000/6,000/6,000) Entries: 27/226 Prizes: $212,553 They are down to 27 players remaining now on the final three tables of the Main Event. Chad Horseman took 29th place followed by Christopher Lawson in 28th. Level 16 is just getting underway.

Day 2 is On with 29 Remaining Now
Level: 15 (2,500/3,000/3,000) Entries: 29/226 Prizes: $212,553 Day 2 is underway and they lost two short stacks early in the day. Alex Liu was the first to go in 31st place followed by Lap Chi Duong in 30th place. That leaves 29 players left battling it out. Prizes will be updated shortly under the payouts tab.

Series Saver Time
Event: Event #10: $2,000 Series Saver ($1,800 + $200) Date: Oct 20, 4 pm Blinds: 40 Min Starting Stack: 50,000 Late Entry: Start of Day 2 The second-to-last event in this PPT is set to run starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and it is for players looking for a big score at the end of the series. Formerly called the High Roller, the $2k Series Saver starts with 50k in chips for 40-minute levels. They’ll play 9 levels on Day 1 before the bags come out, and players can enter the game until the start of Day 2 at noon on Monday.
I won’t have too much time to cover this on Day 1 as I’ll be focused on Day 2 of the Main Event playing out across the room, but I should be on the floor for Day 2 tomorrow as my main focus.
