The renowned WPT Prime series made its grand halt at Aix-en-Provence, introducing yet another World Poker Tour experience in the heart of Provence. With a €1,100 buy-in, the Main Event witnessed an impressive turnout of 457 entrants, spanning across four starting flights.
In the end, it was Samy Boujmala who outshone all competitors, securing himself his first victory of 2023 with a €93,580 prize, along with a €10,400 entry package to the WPT World Championship scheduled for this December at the Wynn Las Vegas.
At the start of the final table, Loic Menneteau was the chip leader with an impressive 3,570,000 stack (89 bb), while the eventual winner, Boujmala, began with a solid 2,010,000 chips (50 bb). The first casualty was Leo Soma, falling to Patrick Vitret already in the first orbit of the final day.
The table dynamics shifted dramatically when Emmanuel Gomez clashed with Boujmala, who managed to eliminate him and take the chip lead. Soon after, Jerome Lopez felt the might of Boujmala’s growing stack, becoming his next victim in 6th place.
Hugo Heiter was responsible for the next two eliminations, knocking out Patrick Viret and Adrien Amorella in 5th and 4th place, respectively, before he was sent packing by the unstoppable Boujmala.
And so, the stage was set for a lengthy heads-up battle that spanned almost four hours and a play of 84 hands. Menneneau managed to surge ahead not once but twice with a more than 4:1 lead over Boujmala, who fought back every time.
In the last hand of the night, Samy Boujmala moved all-in with K9, while Loic Menneneau called with A7. The board ran out of K85 2 5, and Boujmalla ended up with two pair to win the WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence!
With this victory, Boujmala’s live tournament winnings have now swelled to over $830,000, with a staggering $540,000 of that amassed in 2023 alone. Highlighting his breakout year, his two most significant cashes include a 5th place finish at the €5,300 EPT Main Event in Monte Carlo for €235,150 and a 6th place finish at the 2023 WSOP $3,000 6-Handed event for $90,791.
As the dust settles in Aix-en-Provence, the WPT Prime series gears up for its next destination: Taiwan. Just around the corner, this upcoming event promises to be historic as it’s set to be the first WPT Prime event ever with a whopping $1,000,000 guarantee.
