The World Poker Tour (WPT) is gearing up for one of the hallmark events in its Main Tour lineup – the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship. Taking place in Hollywood, FL, this event has been a staple of the WPT calendar since 2011, making its return to South Florida each season. This event-rich festival kicked off on April 3 and is set to run until April 23, promising three weeks of non-stop poker action.
Throughout the festival, players will compete in 75 numbered events, showcasing a wide variety of poker formats. From the standard No Limit Hold’em to mixed games like H.O.R.S.E., Triple Stud, 2-7 Triple Draw, Dealer’s Choice, and many Omaha variants, there’s something to find for every poker enthusiast. Buy-ins range from an accessible $200 to the exclusive $50,000 for the Super High-Roller.
Amid the diverse lineup of events at this year’s festival, one won’t find the Ladies event that drew a lot of attention in 2023. Last year’s $250 Ladies event attracted 83 entries, including 70-year-old David Hughes, who won the tournament at the end and received a significant backlash from the poker community.
$3,500 Championship Event
The centerpiece of the festival, the WPT Championship event, boasts a $3,500 buy-in and an impressive $3,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, drawing players from across the country. The Main Event is scheduled to begin on April 19 with Day 1A and will continue with Day 1B on April 20, leading to the crowning of a new champion on April 23.
Last year’s championship drew 2,290 entries, generating a prize pool of $7,328,000. Big Weng emerged victorious, taking home $1,128,250 for the win and kickstarting his incredible 2023 run that saw him finish the year as both WPT Player of the Year and the Overall 2023 GPI Player of the Year.

WPT Meet-Up Game with Brad Owen
To open the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship, WPT will host a Meet-Up Game (MUG) with popular WPT Ambassador Brad Owen. This event allows players and fans to mingle with some of poker’s most recognizable faces. Scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, just a day before the $3,500 Championship event, the MUG will see Owen leading the $2-$5 cash game action, joined by WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage and the esteemed WPT commentator Vince Van Patten.
“I’m pumped to return to the world-famous Guitar Hotel for another meet-up game,” Owen expressed. “Last year’s MUG at the Poker Showdown was a blast and we’re eager to bring back that hype to the Florida crowd for the upcoming SHRPS.”
