LIVE Reporting: 2024 Fall Super Stack

Deerfoot Inn & Casino is wrapping up the year with the Fall Super Stack series, a return to its signature poker event after a busy year of WSOP Circuit tournaments. Starting with live satellites on Nov 5, this classic Calgary poker event features a lineup of multi-day tournaments that include the $340 Deepstack, $560 Megastack, and the $1,500 Main Event Superstack.

This year’s schedule offers more than just the familiar No-Limit Hold’em events. The series includes a unique $1,100 Heads-Up match on Nov 11, PLO games for Omaha enthusiasts, a 6-Max PKO game, and a variety of other events such as a Mystery Bounty and a Seniors event, ensuring there’s something for everyone. With live coverage exclusively on PokerPro, players can follow all the action, starting with the opening flight of the $340 Deepstack on Nov 7.

  • 15 Players Left in 1a

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:15/89
    Prizes:$25,365

They are down to 15 players left in Day 1a of the Deepstack with the bags coming out with 10 players left. There are a bit more than 10 minutes remaining in Level 13, so it’s an open question whether they’ll make it to the break following Level 14. While the schedule goes until the end of Level 16, it seems very unlikely they’ll make it that far.

  • Up to 62 Entries

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:49/62
    Prizes:$11,780

The PLO players are back from their first break with action in Level 6 now. There are 62 total entries with 49 players still at the felt and just over 10 minutes to play in Level 6.

  • Truong Leads Final Two Tables

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:18/89
    Prizes:$25,365

They are down to 18 players left now in Day 1a with just under 20 minutes to play in Level 12. After a quick look at the stacks, it looks like Andy Truong is leading right now with about 200k in front of him. Michael Malm isn’t far behind with about 180k while Kory Stephenson has about 170k and Scott Calvank is playing 140k.

  • 89 Entries Confirmed

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:20/89
    Prizes:$25,365

The numbers are now confirmed with 89 entries for Day 1a. That means $25,365 will be moving forward to day to prizes and 10 players will bag up chips at the end of the night. The action will go hand-for-hand with 11 players left, so it’s possible that there will be fewer than 10 bags of more than one player busts during hand-for-hand.

In theory, they could play until the end of Level 16, but with the field just 10 off the bags, it seems very unlikely Day 1a will go that late.

  • 1a Entries are Closed

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:27/89
    Prizes:$25,365

Entries are now closed for Day 1a of the Deepstack game with 89 entries as the final number on the board. I’m waiting for confirmation on that but if it holds it will mean at least 10 bags at the end of the night. Action will now proceed until the end of Level 16, or until they are down to 10 players left, whichever comes first.

  • 40 Entries for Level 3

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:40/40
    Prizes:$7,600

They are up to 40 entries with the action in Level 3 and about 15 minutes to play. That puts the prizes at $7,600 and climbing.

  • Dinner Time

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:27/88
    Prizes:$25,080

The 1a players are on dinner now with about 40 minutes until they are back in action and entries are closed. There are 88 entries on the board right now, which would mean at least 9 players bagging chips later but that may change if more entries come in over dinner. With 88 entries the 1a prizes are now over $25k.

  • $6k in Prizes

    Level:2 (100/200/200)
    Entries:34/34
    Prizes:$6,460

Level 2 has just begun in the PLO game with 34 entries on the board for prizes of almost $6,500. Among the players in action are Gary Chan, Darrell Moore, Jason Boyes, Gerry Edwards, Melissa Sekulich, Paul Sokoloff, and Darlene Hernandez.

  • One Hour to Enter 1a

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:27/87
    Prizes:$24,795

There are less than 15 minutes left in Level 10 with the dinner break following this level and the end of entries following dinner. That means there is just under an hour left to get into this opening flight.

Edmonton business man DJ Sharma has arrived in town for the game and has just bought in and Seamus McGearty is among the other new names I noticed on my last trip around the room.

  • PLO Action Underway

    Level:1 (100/100/100)
    Entries:22/22
    Prizes:$4,180

The side event for tonight is underway with 22 players in their seats for Level 1.

  • About 90 Minutes to Enter 1a

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:36/84
    Prizes:$23,940

The prizes are now just shy of $24k with 84 entries on the board. There are about 10 minutes to play in Level 9 which means the end of entries is approaching in less than 90 minutes. They’ll play one more level of poker before the Dinner break following Level 10 and entries will close when they sit down for Level 11 at about 8:15 PM.

  • Gilmurray Leads 82 Entries on Second Break

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:37/82
    Prizes:$23,370

The players are on their second break of the day with Level 9 set to begin in about 5 minutes. I had a look around during the break and it looks like Garrett Gilmurray is the leader right now with about 120k in front of him. Kory Stephenson has about 110k while Michael Malm is playing about 100k. Jeff Charlebois and Scott Calvank are playing just shy of 100k and those look to be the five biggest stacks right now, though I may have missed one.

  • 80 Entries on the Board

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:45/80
    Prizes:$22,800

The field is up to 80 entries now for more than $22.5k in prizes. There are just over 20 minutes to play in Level 8 with another 15-minute break scheduled for the conclusion of this level.

  • Five Tables Remain

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:45/75
    Prizes:$21,375

The total field is at 75 entries now with just under 3 hours left to enter. That puts the 1a prizes over $21k with more entries likely to come before they shut the desk down.

There are 45 players left in the action now on five tables, but they’ll open new tables if necessary for new entries. There is another break following Level 8 with Dinner scheduled after Level 10 and the end of entries when they sit down for Level 11 about 8:15 PM.

  • More than 70 Entries

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:57/72
    Prizes:$20,520

The prizes for 1a are now over $20k with 72 entries on the board and less than five minutes to play in Level 5. Entries are still open for about 3.5 hours, so there is still plenty of time for the numbers to grow.

  • A Look at the Day 1a Field

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:55/66
    Prizes:$18,810

The players are back in their seats for Level 5 action with 66 entries on the board now for prizes of almost $19k. I had a wander around with my video cam running, so see below for a look at the Day 1a field to start the series.

  • More than 60 Entries

    Level:4 (200/400/400)
    Entries:54/62
    Prizes:$17,670

There are more than 60 entries on the board now for Day 1a prizes in excess of $17.5k. There are a few minutes to play in Level 4 with the first break of Day 1a scheduled following this level. Juss Viet, Toms Varghese, and Willie Hernandez are among the players I’ve spotted recently in the field.

  • More than $15k in Prizes

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:48/55
    Prizes:$15,675
Michael Malm, pictured at the final table of the August edition of the WSOP-C 4-Flight game.

The field is up to 55 entries now with 48 players still at the felt. Michael Malm and David Thompson are among the recent entries I’ve seen in the game with Malm back in Alberta after a recent win at WPT Playground, Kahnawake to try and add to his lead in the API standings.

  • Corrected Prizes

    Level:2 (100/200/200)
    Entries:44/44
    Prizes:$12,540

The field is up to 44 entries now for prizes of $12,540. In previous posts, I was working out the prizes incorrectly, but I’ve now corrected my formula to give accurate prizes. Level 2 has about 15 minutes left to play.

  • Up to 40 Entries

    Level:1 (100/100/100)
    Entries:40/40
    Prizes:$12,000

There are about 5 minutes to play in Level 1 with the field up to 40 entries now for $12k in prizes so far. I’ve just had a wander around the room to check out some faces, and among the players in action are Andy Truong, Trevor Simpson, Debi Loomer, Jordan Banfield, Lee Clark, and Jeff Charlebois.
